Puebla City and Cholula Mexico Travel Diary

PUEBLA CENTRO

We did aimless street wandering in Puebla Centro and explored colorful buildings & churches with gorgeous Talavera tile work and amazing craft markets. Each and every wall/building is like a living art piece in Puebla with vibrant colors. Below are few pictures of colorful streets, buildings and zocalo from our trip.

CHOLULA

We also got to explore Cholula area which is approximately 30 minutes’ drive from Puebla Centro. Here you can visit 16th-century church built on top of the Tlachihualtepetl pyramid which is world’s largest pyramid in terms of volume. You cannot see the pyramid from outside as is hidden underneath the Church, but you can walk through the narrow tunnels of the Pyramids to get to the church. Church itself is beautiful, which is also landmark of Puebla city.

During my research I have seen photos of this magnificent church with volcano in the background. But in reality, I didn’t find any place to experience that view. Regardless, Cholula was a great excursion and my son loved walking inside the tunnels of pyramid and hiking up to the church.
